CHILDREN IN VILLAS
A fully staffed Villa is a wonderful environment for family vacations and for children. The staff will pamper them and they will have the freedom of the entire Villa and grounds. There are a few homes that have restrictions. The staff will prepare and serve individual meals for children of all ages, giving parents the option of those precious all-adultsdinners and romantic Caribbean moments. We recommend you let us make a suggestions for the most suitable Villas. Certain homes are more child-friendly than others in terms of safety and bedding considerations.
SPECIAL REQUESTS OR REQUIREMENTS
All private villas provide a full household staff. Most villas are rented with a staff of three including a cook, housekeeper and gardener/houseman. Many villas have additional staff members including butlers, nannies, laundresses, and villa managers/concierges. At apartments/condos and cottages, staff is generally limited to daily maid service/cook.
We will send you a preliminary grocery/menu planner with your final documents. A few weeks prior to arrival, we ask that you use this list as a guide and choose what you would like the staff to pre-stock at your villa as well as what you’d like them to prepare for your first night’s dinner and first morning’s breakfast. If any member of your group has food allergies or special dietary needs, we ask that you let us know this as well so the staff can be forewarned. You will be presented with a bill from the grocery store for the items that have been pre-purchased. After that, you simply communicate with the staff as to what you’d like for the balance of your stay.
You may do your own shopping, you may ask the staff to shop for you, and some grocery stores may deliver.
Many guests opt to ask the cook to join them on a shopping excursion – this is an excellent way to get a good sense of the products available in Jamaica as well as where to go to get the best fresh produce, fresh fish, fruit, etc.
MEALS, GROCERIES & SUPPLIES
Food Shopping: There are a couple of options available after the initial stocking of the Villa for your arrival. a. The villa staff purchase all the food on your behalf based on a menu that you prepare.
b. You may accompany the Villa staff to the markets - This can be an interesting experience
The staff will present you with an estimate for the cost for the cost of food and transportation and return any change along with the receipts. Some villas have prior arrangements with the grocery store to provide groceries in advance of payment: please check with your villa staff.
Our experience shows that the average daily cost for food and beverages per adult per day runs approximately $30-45 per person depending on whether you are a light or heavy eater as well as the your menu selection The cost would be more if you add in alcoholic beverages - especially imported wines and champagnes.
We suggest sitting with the Cook on the day of your arrival to outline a menu and a dining schedule for the period of your stay.
Internet:Nearly all our villas have complimentary high speed wireless Internet access, so bring your smartphones and laptops. As Jamaica has occasional power surges or brief blackouts, we recommend that you travel with a small surge protector, then, remember to log off and disconnect when you’re not working in your laptop.
Climate:Jamaica enjoys a tropical climate, characterized by high temperatures and humid conditions year-round. Average temperature ranges from 19 degrees Celsius (66 degrees Fahrenheit) to 32 degrees Celsius (99 degrees Fahrenheit). Though we’re known for our warmth and sunshine, the island sees two rainy seasons from May to June and September to November. Also, hurricanes may pass over the island primarily during the months June to September.
Will it rain during your holiday? If it does, don't worry. Most times, the short tropical showers provide a welcome break from the afternoon heat – just look at it as liquid sunshine, not rain!
Clothing:Lightweight tropical clothing is best suited throughout the year. Shorts and swimwear are acceptable on beaches. A light sweater is suggested for evenings, especially in the winters months. Semi-casual wear for women and sports jacket for men are recommended.
Water:"Xamayca" is the name that the first Jamaicans, the Tainos, gave to this country. It means "Land of Wood and Water", and for good reason; Jamaica has hundreds of spring and rivers, both above and under ground. Over the years, we have developed extensive water treatment and supply systems islandwide, so all drinking water in Jamaica is purified and filtered by modern methods. Our water is safe for you to drink, clean your teeth, bathe and wash clothing in. If you choose not to drink the water, rest assured; there are many brands of Jamaican spring water that meet or exceed the highest international standards, available at most shops and restaurants.
Banks/Currency:Licenced cambio centres and commercial banks are accessible in all resort areas. Official currency exchange rates vary daily, so it’s advisable to shop around for the best rate before converting your cash. Most Jamaican ATMs accept international bank cards with Visa, MasterCard, Cirrus and Plus logos. Banks also give credit card advances, change traveller’s cheques among other financial services.
